The Farmhouse borrows energy from the sky and ground; material mainly from plant life and waste stockpiles.

The University of Colorado and;
The Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium.
The Farmhouse was designed by Julee Herdt and Steve Gates.

The Farmhouse project was possible through the vision and professional guidance of Dr. Robert Armstrong.

The Farmhouse represents a new type of environmental and energy-efficient architecture. It is bio-based, which means that a large percentage of materials used in its construction is manufactured from agricultural fibers and wood waste. In this project, these bio-based materials are combined with a range of other environmental products and systems to create a low-energy use, low-maintenance home. Materials for The Farmhouse are industrialized -- they come from factories and are compatible with standard building materials and systems.

The Farmhouse residence and home office is built in Boulder, Colorado, at the base of the Foothills. Methods used to construct The Farmhouse can be adapted to all US sites for environmental projects both large and small, residential and commercial and with a wide range of budgets.
